4 Ways To Elevate Your Sleep Routine

A lot happens internally when our eyes close for the night. But how is your surrounding environment ushering you into slumber?

Here are 4 ways to create your own nocturnal Utopia and get the sleep your body deserves!

1. Say Hello To Your Little Green Friends

There are many plants that promote restful sleep. Consider placing a Dracaena trifasciata, also known as a Snake plant, near your bed. Snake plants filter out formaldehyde and help convert Carbon Dioxide into Oxygen allowing people to breathe cleaner fresher air while sleeping.

2. Take Out The Light

In the darkness, your body releases a hormone called melatonin which relaxes your body helping you to drift off. Darkness is essential to sleep. The absence of light sends a critical signal to the body that it is time to rest. Consider using a light eye mask, or add room darkening curtains to your space. If a small amount of light makes you more comfortable, try a Pink Himalayan Salt Lamp which can provide just enough light to not be distracting. The science is still out on if the lamp reduces stress and anxiety, but it sure is relaxing to look at.

3. Bring In The White Noise

Our brains still process stimuli like sound while we are sleeping. You might have heard of White, Pink, or even Green noise. White noise is the most common and is often compared to a waterfall in the distance hitting various surfaces. Steady, low sounds are soothing and help block out other noises. There are apps and streaming playlists of various white noise sounds. You can also duplicate the sound with a fan or air purifier!

4. Keep It Cool

Your body temperature tends to fluctuate slightly during the day, and the same is true at night. Body temperature starts to fall as bedtime approaches, paving the way for a good night’s sleep. The body also tends to lose heat, which helps you not only fall but stay asleep. Avoid exercise right before bed if possible because exercise heats the body up and the body sleeps better when it’s cooler.

According to The Sleep Foundation, "Sleep provides essential support to the immune system. Getting sufficient hours of high-quality sleep enables a well-balanced immune defense that features strong innate and adaptive immunity, efficient response to vaccines, and less severe allergic reactions."

Fall in love with your sleep routine!

Sweet dreams friends...you can create them and you deserve them!
